If you don’t have a plunger then there are other ways to try and unclog a toilet. You can try any or all of the following:
washing up liquid and a bucket of water
bicarb of soda and vinegar
wire coat hanger to shift that devilishly stubborn bung!
Washing Up Liquid
Your first attempt should be ordinary washing up liquid. Squeeze around half a mug-full into the toilet and around the sides as you would toilet cleaner so it covers the whole waterline and then criss-crossing the water itself. Leave for 30 minutes to dissolve the blockage a little. Fill your bucket with hot water and pour it into the toilet from about waist height as the force of the water will help move the blockage through. Leave for a further 10/15 minutes and then flush. Fingers crossed, goodbye blockage! If not, try and repeat the process.
Bicarbonate of soda / vinegar
Put a mugful of baking soda and 2 mugs of vinegar into the toilet bowl. Let this bubble away for at least thirty minutes to break up any material that is clinging to the sides of the toilet and then flush.
Coat Hanger
Unwind a wire coat hanger until it is straight. Bend one end back up to form a U shape and use this end to push into the toilet. Push and pull at the obstruction until it begins to break up and hopefully flows away.
